The TERAMAG project aims to utilize terahertz electromagnetic pulses to achieve rapid spin transport and control in materials. By merging concepts from spintronics and femtomagnetism, it seeks to explore new applications in information processing and develop advanced measurement techniques.
In order to fully exploit the electron spin as a signal carrier in future information processing, spins need to be transported and flipped as fast as possible.
Spintronics research aims at implementing these operations by electric fields in circuitry, but has so far been limited to frequencies below ~10 GHz.
