This research critically examines the Marxist Humanist tradition, exploring its key thinkers and their interpretations of Marx's early writings. It aims to understand the implications of these ideas across different contexts and their relevance to contemporary social issues.
The Marxist Humanist tradition has been markedly neglected within Marxist thought and within twentieth century intellectualhistory more generally.
The proposed research will therefore provide the first detailed and critical account of this tradition – atradition which springs from the reception of Marx’s 1844 Manuscripts and from the humanist standpoint that was central tothem.
