This project aims to develop non-invasive thermal imaging techniques to assess the physiological state of wild animals, linking it to their fitness in natural environments. By avoiding invasive methods, it seeks to enhance understanding of how animals adapt to environmental changes.
Understanding variation in ability to survive and pass on genes (fitness) is central to evolutionary biology and conservation ecology.
Fitness differences are largely explained by physiological state, as physiological processes are dynamically adjusted to maximise fitness in response to environmental variation.
