The unprecedented amount of photometric, spectroscopic, and astrometric data for billion stars provided by ongoing and future surveys and instruments (Gaia, APOGEE, WEAVE, MOONS, 4MOST, LSST, ELT, JWST) are allowing and will allow the detailed exploration of the Galactic history.
