This project investigates how changes in relative humidity have historically influenced the transition between tropical forests and savannas in Africa. By analyzing the triple oxygen isotope composition of phytoliths, it aims to identify critical thresholds that affect forest resilience and response to climate change.
Tropical forest and savanna are home to one-fifth of global human population.
With ongoing global change, predicting how these biomes will respond to changing rainfall and relative humidity (RH) is of high priority.
