The THUNDERR project aims to develop a comprehensive model for understanding the impact of thunderstorms on structures. By creating a wind monitoring network and conducting advanced simulations, it seeks to improve safety and cost-efficiency in engineering practices related to wind loading from thunderstorms.
Wind actions are crucial for the safety and cost of structures.The wind climate of Europe and many parts of the world is dominated by synoptic extra-tropical cyclones and mesoscale thunderstorm outflows.
Thunderstorms are frequent events causing wind speeds often higher than cyclones.In spite of an impressive amount of research, there is not yet a model for thunderstorm outflows and their actions on structures like that for cyclones.
