This project investigates the ecology of rivers and wetlands in East Africa, focusing on food web structures and the role of terrestrial materials in aquatic communities. It aims to identify key environmental factors affecting these ecosystems to predict responses to human activities and inform conservation efforts.
In many parts of Africa, human populations depend directly or indirectly on rivers and wetlands.
Despite this importance, basic ecological aspects of most aquatic communities are still poorly understood and destructive activities such as deforestation and dam construction are in rapid ascent, threatening waterways and their wetlands.
