This project investigates the interactions between plant pathogens and host defense mechanisms, focusing on how certain receptors in barley recognize and respond to fungal effectors. It aims to enhance disease resistance in crops through a better understanding of these molecular interactions.
Pathogens secrete effectors into host cells to promote virulence and often establish disease by interception of basal defence components.
One widespread mechanism of disease resistance in plants requires nucleotide-binding oligomerization (NOD)-like receptor (NLR) genes.
