This project investigates how DNA vectors locate and integrate into specific sites within the genome. By utilizing advanced imaging and molecular techniques, it aims to enhance gene targeting in plants through protein interactions and chromatin remodeling, ultimately improving genetic engineering methods.
DNA introduced into a cell usually integrates, if at all, at random in the genome.
In order for gene targeting to take place, a small vector must scan a huge genome that is packaged in chromatin, identify and bind the target, and engage in strand exchange.
This formidable task is likely to be rate limiting.
