trainABL focuses on understanding turbulence intermittency in the atmospheric boundary layer, which affects weather forecasting and wind energy potential. By using advanced simulations, the project aims to develop a new method for representing turbulent mixing that accounts for large-scale variations in turbulence.
Vertical exchange in the atmospheric boundary is primarily due to turbulence, but turbulence may cease locally as a consequence of stable density stratification.
This state of turbulence intermittency challenges traditional geophysical approaches to represent turbulent mixing.
