This research fellowship aims to enhance understanding of medieval European astronomy and its connections to Islamic knowledge. By analyzing historical sources, the project will explore the role of observation in astronomy and how new ideas were integrated into European thought.
The research aim of this Fellowship is to advance scholarly and public understanding of Europe’s role in the history of pre-modern science and the precise nature of its intellectual debts to the Islamic world.
It will do so thorough investigating the development of medieval European astronomy in the watershed period from 1000 to 1250 based on an analysis of unpublished or neglected sources.
