This project explores ocean alkalinity enhancement as a method to mitigate climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It investigates the effects of increased alkalinity and trace metals on marine phytoplankton, which play a crucial role in carbon cycling.
Keeping global warming below 2°C will require drastic reductions or even planetary-scale negative emissions that must be initiated within this decade to remove hundreds of gigatons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
