This project investigates how cells select specific messenger RNAs for translation during stress responses. By studying RNA-binding proteins and their interactions with mRNA, the research aims to uncover mechanisms that influence cell survival and differentiation, particularly in neurons.
Unfolded protein response (UPR) is activated by multiple types of cellular stress, and can promote either cell survival or apoptosis.
The balance between these opposing outcomes is delicately regulated, and when lost, contributes to diverse diseases. UPR enables cells to halt general translation, while inducing translation and transcription of specific mRNAs that escape repression.
