TRANSMODERN explores the evolution of modern Persian literary criticism, focusing on how translation and the challenges of untranslatability have shaped its development. The project aims to analyze Persian literary publications to understand the adaptation of European critical norms in a non-European context.
It is widely accepted that the advent of modernist Persian literary theory, its transformation from traditional Persian rhetoric (balagha) into modern criticism (qeritiqa) in the mid-nineteenth century, has been driven by translation and adaptation of European literary critical norms.
