This research explores the impact of non-state legal systems on women's rights and gender relations in Kurdish communities in Berlin and Diyarbakir. Through interviews and observations, it aims to understand the preference for alternative dispute resolution over state courts, particularly in family cases.
The use of multiple legal practices based on diverse normative perceptions increasingly challenges the monopoly of state law.
In Europe, this issue has become especially visible in the ongoing discussions about sharia courts.
