This project focuses on understanding out-of-equilibrium dynamics in quantum systems, exploring how closed systems reach thermal states. It aims to develop a theoretical framework to analyze universal features of nonequilibrium dynamics, relevant for quantum computing and fundamental physics.
Compared to our understanding of equilibrium physics, the study of out of equilibrium dynamical phenomena is still in its infancy.
Equilibrium systems can often be understood using mean field theory, universality and renormalisation group techniques.
