This project investigates the historical contexts that influenced knowledge production in the East and West from the Ming Dynasty to the Industrial Revolution. It examines how different cultures and cosmologies shaped the accumulation of useful knowledge in economic history.
This proposal falls in paradigms for historical research in the comparative economic history of long-run global perspective: associated with the scholarship of Max Weber and Marc Bloch.
It is focused upon cosmologies and cultures, promoting or restraining the accumulation of useful and reliable knowledge of production in the Orient and the Occident in the early-modern period - from the accession of the Ming Dynasty to the First Industrial Revolution.
