The PreCursor-M project focuses on improving cervical cancer screening by using a molecular assay that assesses disease progression based on biomarker methylation levels. This approach aims to reduce overdiagnosis and overtreatment while accurately identifying women at risk for cervical cancer.
With an estimated 528,000 new cases and 266,000 deaths in 2012, cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common type of cancer in women, and the seventh overall. CC is preventable with regular screening tests and follow-up, and curable if found and treated early.
