This project investigates the evolution of the Antarctic Ice Sheet from the middle Miocene to the present, focusing on sedimentary changes along the West Antarctic continental margins. It aims to clarify the climatic and oceanographic factors influencing these changes and their global implications.
The evolution of the Antarctic Ice Sheet has been widely debated.
According to several studies a continent-wide ice sheetfirst developed during the early Oligocene and subsequently it experienced many cycles of advance and retreat.Tectonic, oceanographic, climatic and ice dynamic processes have been pointed to as the primary factors controlling thisoscillation.
