The project investigates the intersection of formal and informal institutions in shaping water and sanitation policies in sub-Saharan Africa. By analyzing Nigeria and Malawi, it aims to improve understanding of the barriers to effective water and sanitation practices.
Science underpins Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) policies by promoting improved understanding of ‘processes’ and ‘practices’ and providing evidence enabling effectiveness, or ‘impact’ to be evaluated.
However, knowledge exchange between stakeholders rarely runs smoothly, without translational challenges.
