This project focuses on developing silicene, an ultra-thin silicon layer, to create high-performance and flexible transistors. By stabilizing silicene membranes, the aim is to enhance energy efficiency and miniaturization for applications in sustainable electronics, particularly in the internet-of-things domain.
Silicon is the key building block of transistors, the workhorse of modern electronics.
Since the early 2000s, scaling down the transistors size according to Moores Law to increase clock speed, decrease energy requirements and enhance compactness has been progressively more challenging than it had been for the previous 40 years.
