This research focuses on understanding how transcription factors regulate gene expression during zygotic genome activation in fruit flies. It combines in vitro and in vivo studies to explore the interactions of the transcriptional activator Zelda with DNA and its role in gene regulation.
A long-standing question in biology is how do transcription activators and repressors exert their function over large batteries of specific targets spread throughout the genome in a timely and coordinated way.
