This project addresses the high levels of food waste in Europe by developing a novel humidification and disinfection technology for post-harvest fruits and vegetables. The goal is to enhance shelf life and quality during transportation and storage, ultimately reducing waste.
Million of tons of vegetables and fruits are harvested and then distributed throughout Europe every year.
However, fruits and vegetables can be regarded as highly perishable foods and are especially susceptible to changing climatic conditions (temperature, humidity) after harvest.
